- This is a 1-year project to establish a prototype operation for converting plant biomass into
usable forms of energy to support the local economy (for charcoal, diesel engines, and soil
fertilizer) and to lay the groundwork for reforestation of the region.
- The project will be developed
in partnership with the local agricultural cooperative, local charcoal-makers, the Natural Resource
faculty of the State University of Haiti, and the Ministry of Agriculture. All of these parties have
agreed to participate in the project.
- The goal of the project is to demonstrate the economic
feasibility of Terrier Rouge becoming an energy supplier for northern Haiti, which will create an
improved and sustainable local economy.
