THE CHALLENGES

The challenge for Haiti’s Northeast region is:

  • High infant and maternal mortality rate.
  • Life expectancy of less than 55 years, malnutrition, diabetes, high blood pressure.

Why?

  • No local ambulatory care clinic in the region.
  • No basic healthcare services available.
  • No emergency transportation to out-of-town health care clinic or hospital.
  • No basic health education.
  • Chronic illness made worse by poverty.

THE SOLUTIONS

Clinique Espérance Vie addresses Terrier Rouge's healthcare woes by addressing long-term, sustainable healthcare:

  • Collaborating closely with the local community.
  • Building a structure to serve as a permanent location for healthcare services.
  • Developing a clinic that can offer services from visiting doctors, dentists, opthalmologists, and other professionals.
  • Training health agents for the region.
  • Working closely with other initiatives in the area to support education and economic stability.

Terrier Rouge, in northeast Haiti, has all the manifestations of extreme poverty: subsistence living, insecurity, illiteracy, high mortality, poor nutrition and health, and a rapidly deteriorating environment.

Clinique Espérance et Vie (The Clinic of Hope and Life) promotes health education and wellness in the local community.
