Made with Xara Web Designer Visiting Physicians Bring Gifts of Healing to Terrier Rouge Hundreds of Patients Make Pilgrimage During the months of April and May, Clinique Espérance et Vie hosted visiting  physicians from the United States and Haiti.  Word spread quickly throughout  Terrier Rouge and the surrounding areas and people made the journey to receive  help and healing, some patients visiting a doctor for the first time in their lives.   Many walked long distances in 90° heat; others brought their children on bicycles.   The elderly and most seriously ill arrived by moped taxi.  The medical team's days  were filled with non-stop procedures and consultations.  Staff worked into the  evening, seeing every patient, every day.   Drs. Jonel Daphnis and Robert Gore, emergency care physicians from Kings  County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, worked at the Clinic for one week treating a wide  variety of conditions including diabetes and hypertension, dehydration and  malnutrition, and malaria.  Dr. Daphnis, a Haitian-American himself, said of his  experience, "This visit evolved into a promise . . . to continue to learn from my  Northern Haitian family and to establish a connection between my residency  program and the clinic that will continue to enrich the experience of patients and  health care workers."  Dr. Gore was also moved by his experience and is already  planning his return to Haiti.  Dr. Bob Brown, an ophthalmologist from South Carolina, along with his wife Susan  and ophthalmological assistant John Spragins, worked at the Clinic for two weeks.   Dr. Brown performed 45 cataract operations!  While in Haiti, Dr. Brown saw an  unusual number of glaucoma patients near total blindness.  Bethlehem Ministry is  now developing a program to reduce the incidence of glaucoma.  Dr. Brown and  his wife were so moved by their experience in Haiti that they are planning a return  visit in 2010, this time staying on for three weeks.  Dr. Gary Fleming, a pediatrician from Athens, GA, worked with patients at the Clinic  for 10 days.  His pediatric patients suffered from malnutrition, dehydration, worms,  scabies, and impetigo.  He also educated many new mothers on effective nursing  of their newborns.  Dr. Fleming has visited Terrier Rouge several times and is  deeply commited to our cause.  Clinique Espérance et Vie has also been blessed with the work of physical  therapists, Hank Wright and Trey Scott from Athens, GA.  Both men have visited  the Clinic numerous times.  Mr. Wright and Mr. Scott have fitted one patient with a  prosthetic leg, performed a great deal of therapy on many others, and were able to  procure a wheelchair for a girl suffering from cerebral palsy.  In March, Hank Wright  brought a group of high school students to Terrier Rouge during their Spring Break.   He was able to see therapy patients while the students worked at the school and  fed the hungry in the nearby town of Phaeton.  Trey Scott has been so moved by  his experiences with the Haitian people that he is now serving as an active  member on the Board of Bethlehem Ministry.  His entire family is planning a trip to  Haiti this Christmas.  Haiti is a place of unbelievable challenges but also unceasing hope.  Over the last  two decades we have seen the difference our programs have made in the  community we serve.  Come visit with us and have your heart transformed.  We  promise you your visit will mark one of the most meaningful journeys of your life.  Physical Therapist Hank Wright treats a patient in Terrier Rouge Drs.
