Jatropha Pepinye

Children in Haiti

Jatropha Pepinye is a Haitian non-profit nursery that grows transplant seedlings of Jatropha curcas, a native tree which produces biodiesel. This Haitian renewable fuel can break the devastating monopoly of imported petroleum (a gallon costs more than the average Haitian earns in a day) and can provide a new cash crop for destitute farmers in areas too dry for food crops.

Because Jatropha seedlings are tough, they can also revegetate deforested watersheds, where mudslides and flooding are catastrophic. The Jatropha tree is adapted to dry poor soils and, because it yields for 50years, can improve the rural economy for generations. Thousands of unused and barren acres can be put to use growing the biodiesel tree and Jatropha Pepinye is on location to supply healthy trees and technical expertise. 1000 trees will plant 1 acre at a cost of $500. Consider donating an order to poor farmers in Haiti to grow. It is a green and sustainable solution to poverty. Call 706-549-8211 or email info@peopleandplace.org

Would your group be interested in being part of a green solution to poverty in Haiti? Would you like to convert pocket change to biodiesel?

Just $0.50 buys a tree along with the technical assistance to help farmers grow, harvest and process the seeds. It produces for 50 years, which means that trees planted now will work for generations to come providing families and villages with much needed cash. Multiplied across the country it will replace imported petroleum, which costs more per gallon than the average Haitian earns in a day. This is an ecological and sustainable solution to poverty.

To Convert Pocket Change to Biodiesel in Haiti:

  • Email me at rob@peopleandplace.org or call 706.549.8211 to receive a fundraising kit with preprinted labels and a CD about the program for your group to watch.
  • Wrap the labels around empty soda cans and ask people to put them in their car cupholders for loose change from a drivethrough, a petroleum ll up, etc.
  • Collect the cans and convert the pocket change to biodiesel by sending a check to Partner for People and Place, 330 Research Drive A210, Athens, Georgia 30605.
  • At our nursery in Haiti well distribute your trees to Haitian peasant farmers and give them the technical assistance they need.

Your fundraiser will improve life in rural Haiti and teach us all about renewable energy.
