Bethlehem Ministry's Programs

Our three programs are designed to address, in a holistic and connected way, basic issues that hold people in poverty

  • Education
    • We provide basic education to as many of the poorest people as possible. For those who show promise, we provide support for education as far as they can go. By extension, we look for opportunities to educate others and support education in the area. An education cannot be stolen, lost or erased. It is a jewel to be used throughout life.
  • Healthcare
    • Sick people cannot learn, earn money or enjoy their life. Basic health care is essential for a healthy community. The clinic will work with the existing government clinic to provide basic health care, training Haitians to handle basic tasks, and teach people basic principles of good health. Visiting doctors will work with native health workers to offer long term care.
  • Economic Development
    • This is a farming town, but farmers without equipment and seed can barely grow enough for a family. And there are no other jobs to be had. Everything that we do in this area promises to lead to benefit. We are working on two projects: a charcoal oven designed to increase the yield of charcoal (used for cooking throughout Haiti), and eventually to utilize agricultural plants instead of precious trees. The second is the promotion of the growing of the Jatropha plant for its bean, which yields a high-quality oil perfect for use as a bio-fuel. By joining economic benefit with environment friendly activities, we attack two problems at once.

Finally, we cannot turn away from persistent, dire need. We give away food to the aged and infirm in Terrier Rouge and in nearby towns. We have helped to supply clean water by repairing a well. These are "ministries of opportunity" - see a need and fill it.
